When Does a Reverse Osmosis System Make Sense?
Reverse osmosis systems remove many contaminants from your drinking water. If you have high levels of a certain contaminant, a reverse osmosis system can improve the safety of your home's drinking and cooking water. This is often the most effective way to increase the quality and safety of your consumable water.
Reverse osmosis systems require specific knowledge. Fortunately, Flotek plumbers are well-versed in RO systems. In fact, calling us first for repairs, maintenance, replacement, or new installations can save you a lot of headaches. Incorrect installations can cause costly repair bills down the road. Therefore, we recommend going with the experts from day one.
Keep in mind that reverse osmosis systems do consume more water. We will help you better understand the impact to your monthly utility bill, so you can make an informed decision about whether an RO system is right for your home or business.

āI recently had a pipe burst in my home. I called Flotek Plumbing and they came out immediately to repair the pipe. They did not charge extra fees to come out quickly. I have also had this company come out and install a water heater and water softener. This company provided us with the best quality product at the best price. This company is highly recommended.ā

āIf you want a reliable, honest, and knowledgeable plumber, Flotek Plumbing is the way to go!! We were referred to Flotek from a friend initially to bid out a complete basement remodel. Not only were they the most reasonable on cost, the service and responsiveness was like none-other we had seen before. They completed our basement project which included; a new bathroom with shower, re-pitched our septic line and repositioned our water heater and other utilities to a centralized location. The job was completed on budget (with no hidden costs) and completed in a timely manner. We have since had other needs to call Flotek and again their responsiveness has been outstanding. Gabe Cetina (The owner of Flotek), stands behind his work and owns a business we highly recommend.ā

How Does a Reverse Osmosis System Work?
Your reverse osmosis system removes molecules, minerals and impurities from the water at your business or home. Some systems work slightly differently than others. However, most of them use several stages to produce cleaner water. These stages include pre-filtration, reverse osmosis, drainage and tank storage.
Pre-Filtration
The system uses a pump to produce enough pressure to feed water through the filters. Untreated water flows through multiple carbon-based filters to trap minerals and sediment before moving on to the reverse osmosis chamber.
Reverse Osmosis
During reverse osmosis, the system pushes pre-filtered water through a semipermeable membrane. The tiny holes that allow treated water to pass through are about one-hundredth the size of a human hair (10 microns wide).
Drainage and StorageĀ
Your whole house reverse osmosis system drains out the contaminants left behind in filters. The water that makes it past all the filters is stored in a tank, ready for use.
Does a Reverse Osmosis System Make Drinking Water Safer?
The RO system effectively filters out the following substances:
- Salts
- Organic bacteria
- Chlorine
- Particles
- Protein-based substances that cause fevers and inflammation
- Oil and fat-based molecules
A reverse osmosis system produces safer drinking water for your family and may contribute to improved health. By removing harmful minerals and bacteria, you can enjoy water free of contaminants.
Unfiltered water contains harmful contaminants that can contribute to health problems such as:
- Low fertility
- High blood pressure
- Skin issues
- Carcinogens
Using reverse osmosis systems gives you confidence that the water in your home is truly safe to drink. You can save money and do something good for the environment by eliminating the need for bottled water.
Benefits of Reverse Osmosis
Here are just some of the benefits of installing a reverse osmosis system:
- Eliminates sodium and lead
- Uses less energy than other water filtration systems
- Compact
- Easy to maintain
- Replaces bottled water, which can save you hundreds of dollars
